Hands on Experiment
STEM activities and hands on experiments to get the real feel of doing science and opportunity to interact with scientists .
About Us
Genetiks4u is an IndiaBioscience Outreach program dedicated to advancing scientific literacy, with a special focus on genetic literacy, as it is essential for informed public decision-making. Our team of Scientists and Comics committed to identifying and promoting the key components of genetic literacy. We understand that traditional textbook-based learning can often be less interactive and engaging. To address this, Genetiks4u employs a FUN-LEARNING approach using comic formats, which we believe is ideal for educating youth and wider audiences about genetics. Our innovative method not only makes learning about genetics more engaging but also encourages active participation through small, related experiments. Through the Genetiks4u program, we aim to spark genetic knowledge and create an environment where learning is both enjoyable and educational. Join us in our mission to enhance genetic literacy and empower informed decision-making within our communities.
There is the need to have an enlightened citizenry, people who are aware of the nature of science, who use the scientific approach in their decision-making. (Ebert, 1993)
Teaching genetics at the school level can be challenging but is achievable with the right approach and resources.
Passive Teaching
The teaching of genetics in schools put students in passive position (only listening and writing) and students may lack interest in this system due to absence of active engagement..
At HighSchool level
School students of class 9-12, have limited experiments related to human genetics in the curriculum.

Images and Visuals
Our idea is to create visual/graphic representation of knowledge that is easier to remember and is engaging.
Hands-on
We are addressing to Kinesthetic learning style through “hands-on” learning. This allows students to become comfortable with the concepts. Experiencing the skills of research will hopefully motivate them to take research as their careers.
Project objectives TO MAKE genetics more interesting
Teaching the concepts of genetics with Comics and hands-on activities to school students in a way that they understand and identify with.
To create resource of reading material which combines images with text.

Genetiks4u Popper
A glimpse of genetiks4u - Genetiks4U is an outreach project, funded by IndiaBioscience and is an effort to bring concepts of genetics to school children (Grade 9-12) through comics, story telling and hands on experiments. This is a collaborative effort of scientists Dr Chandana Basu and Dr Garima Jain at Banaras Hindu University and Ms Nandini Chilkam at Learnwith comics. Together, they form crew-X (women in STEM) bringing genetics approachable and understandable to school children.

IndiaBioscience Outreach Grants (IOG)
IndiaBioscience Outreach Grants (IOG)
The IndiaBioscience outreach Grants by IndiaBioscience were initiated to motivate young researchers to step out of
their labs and build stronger connections with the broader public through innovative science
outreach efforts.
Genetiks4u is proud to announce that it was one of the five teams across India who had won 3rd
IndiaBioscience Outreach Grant award. Applications for the 3rd IOG opened in September 2022, and
selected projects were initiated by December 2022. Additionally, Genetiks4u was also awarded the
Fourth IndiaBioscience Outreach Extension Grant in 2023.
Let's Build a Better India!
Science outreach and communication are responsibilities for scientists across career stages and
disciplines. It is increasingly important to build interactions between scientists and the
broader public via strategies such as sharing scientifically reliable information, fostering
scientific temperament, and increasing the accessibility of research. Despite their value and
relevance, scientist-led outreach initiatives are few and often face a shortage of resources.
IndiaBioscience (IBS) strives to promote the practice of science outreach among the Young
Investigator community in India via the IndiaBioscience Outreach Grants (IOG).
First-time Grants: This IOG scheme is for first-time applicants. IBS will award a maximum of INR
1 lakh for a duration of 1 year. A total of up to five grants will be offered to teams led by a
Young Investigator (within 8 years of starting as an independent investigator) in India. The
grant will be released to the host institute of the YI in two installments: 70% at the start of
the grant and 30% on a reimbursable basis (against invoices of expenditures already made) at the
end of the grant period. Note: Although there are no specific guidelines for the nature of the
work to be done, we are looking for innovative and diverse ideas with broad societal benefits
related to life sciences.
Extension Grants: This IOG scheme is for previous IOG awardees from the 3rd IOG. IBS will award
a maximum of INR 1.5 lakhs for 1 year to up to two previous 3rd IOG awardees. This funding is
intended to enable successfully-executed projects to become sustainable in the long term, i.e.,
set up permanent structures, seek additional funding, and build partnerships with other
agencies. The grant will be released to the host institute of the YI in two installments: 70% at
the start of the grant and 30% on a reimbursable basis (against invoices of expenditures already
made) at the end of the grant period. Note: The request for the second round of funding should
be well-justified in the application. Each team will only be eligible to apply for the Extension
Grant in the grant cycle immediately following their First-Time Grant and can attain the
Extension Grant only once.
